New road markings to help residents get out of their driveways safely are being proposed for Pool-in-Wharfedale.

Leeds City Council is planning to make the changes on a section of the A658 Pool Bank New Road after being contacted by householders about the issue.

The authority is aiming to create a cycle lane on the left side of the road, as it heads uphill, that would stretch from just past Swallow Drive to just before the turn-off for Pool Bank Farm.

A similar length of hatching, meanwhile, would be added on the left, downhill, side of the road.

The council says it is considering the changes in response to requests from local residents who are concerned about speeding traffic and the difficulties they face while trying to join the road.

It is currently seeking the views of ward and parish councillors and will then, if they are supportive, consult with those Pool Bank New Road householders who would be affected.

The authority is also proceeding with a scheme that will see a lower 40mph speed limit introduced on the current 50mph section.
