Volunteers' plea to help keep Bramhope blooming

Volunteers have been busy over the winter doing everything they can to keep Bramhope blooming.

Members of the Bramhope in Bloom group have put in the spadework to keep their village looking attractive – and they are inviting others to come along and join them.

The group has been weeding, digging, planting bulbs and sowing wildflower seeds on Breary Lane so that everyone can enjoy both the spring daffodils and the wildflowers from June onwards.

Members plant thousands of crocus and daffodils in areas near the roadside, as well as refurbishing beds and building new ones.

The group also organises regular litter picks – collecting more than 30 bags of rubbish at their last one in March.

And they run a Bramhope In Bloom poster competition, for the local school, with prizes supplied by the Leeds Floral Initiative.

Spokeswoman Janet Hobson said: “So, in wind and rain and the occasional sunny day, the In Bloomers are busy beavering away. Would you like to join our group?

“We are very friendly, provide lots of cakes and cups of tea/coffee, and would love to meet you and no matter what your capabilities are we can find a job for you.”

Anyone interested should contact Janet on (0113) 203 7744 or 07919 087745.
