People in Aireborough are being urged to love their heart with free fitness help in Guiseley.

The healthy heart event, held by Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre, is offering free blood pressure checks as well as checks on aerobic fitness and cholesterol.

It is being staged just after Valentine’s Day in support of National Heart Month.

The centre says: “The heart is the most important muscle in the body but many of us don’t look after it properly.

“The British Heart Foundation estimates coronary heart disease is responsible for almost 74,000 deaths in the UK each year – that’s an average of 200 people each day.

“For some people, this could be prevented. Each day your heart beats on average 100,000 times and pumps 5,000 gallons of blood round your body.

“Keeping your heart in good working order is essential for good health and the experts at Nuffield Health are on hand to show you how at their healthy heart event.”

Anyone can drop into the session, which is open from 9am to 9pm on Monday.

There will also be a chance to sample heart-healthy food and to pick up recipe tips.
