A new campsite is being set up to cater for the thousands of cycling fans who are expected to cheer on the Tour de France in Otley.

Pool Road Campsite, based off the A659 on the Midgley Farm Estate, will also offer packages for those coming along to see the 2014 Otley Cycle Race on Wednesday, July 2 – three days before Le Tour passes through.

But its main focus is on offering accommodation, along with a variety of food and refreshments, for the many spectators set to descend on Wharfedale for the Tour’s Grand Depart on Saturday, July 5.

Its Pool Road location is sure to be in high demand as the race’s Leeds to Harrogate opening stage will see the world’s top cyclists taking the route into Otley, and the campsite will have a range of attractions, including live music and a bar, to keep the crowds otherwise entertained.

The potentially lucrative venture is a collaborative one being run by the farm’s owner Mavis Hudson, her daughters Susan Hudson and Caroline Scholey, Caroline’s husband John, and farmers David and Julie Asquith.

The campsite’s website says: “Pool Road Campsite is providing camping with entertainment during Le Grand Depart – Le Tour Yorkshire in the UK, when the race travels through the historic and scenic town of Otley.

“Camping accommodation will be available from July 2 to July 7, 2014.

“So come and join us for this brilliant event and soak up the great atmosphere of the race and all that travels with it.

“We have plenty to offer you to enjoy whilst you enjoy your stay with us. We have entertainment with a live band, a licensed bar, onsite catering, provision for camper vans, caravans, motorhomes, parking and a family friendly area with entertainment for children.”
