A jazz singer who has tried many performance genres through her varied career is to perform at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday, February 22.

Beverley Beirne, described by one critic as a truly gifted interpreter, sings a mix of standards and interpretations from other genres.

Starting out with a fascination for American singers as a young girl, she went on to train classically, becoming part of a group of classical singers who sang around Yorkshire.

She joined an acting group in Halifax and studied method acting, before going on to work in small film productions and television.

After graduating, she worked for the BBC in Shepherd’s Bush, before moving back to Yorkshire to work for YTV.

But after a catalogue of personal disasters, including a serious car accident, she followed her heart and began to focus on jazz singing.

With strong support from the jazz community, she has gone on to secure notable gigs, and released her debut album, Seasons Of Love in 2012.

She will perform at the Playhouse’s Wildman Theatre, joined by four talented young performers, Declan Forde on piano, Simon Read on bass, Sam Gardner on drums and Ben Lowman on Tenor Sax.

The performance begins at 8pm.

Tickets cost £10. Call (01943) 609539 for details.
