Once again the Ilkley Gazette and Wharfedale & Aireborough Observer has teamed up with Ilkley’s independent camera shop, Annings, in Cunliffe Road, to offer some great prizes in a photography competition.

Run in conjunction with the Youth Committee of the Rotary Club of Ilkley, we aim to focus on photography by young people.

The theme of the competition is Winter Scenes, so we are hoping to see lots of crisp, nature pictures – possibly with ice and maybe even snow, depending on what the weather does in the next few weeks.

There will be two age categories – under 18 and over 18. There will be a first prize of a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40 digital camera for the winner of each age category, with a runner-up prize of a 30inx20in printed canvas.

The closing date for entries will be Friday, February 28. We will run a selection of entries in the interim, before judges choose the top five from each age category, which will then be printed in the paper and readers will vote for their favourite.

The Rotary Club’s Youth Committee plays an active role in encouraging young people to prosper and interact with the community. Some of its projects include running the Young Dales Chef competition, organising the Pancake Race, holding a handwriting competition and a technology tournament, as well as running a Leadership Award.
