Labour Party chief whip Rosie Winterton has been talking to Wharfedale and Aireborough residents about rising living costs.

The MP gathered signatures from shoppers in Otley and Guiseley last Saturday morning as part of a campaign against increasing fuel prices.

She joined Labour’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for Leeds North West, Alex Sobel, in Otley’s market square and later Jamie Hanley, the party’s candidate for Pudsey, outside Morrisons’ Guiseley supermarket. Both seats are being targeted as key areas for Labour in the next General Election.

Mr Sobel said: “I was pleased to welcome Rosie Winterton who joined me in Otley to speak to residents about the crippling cost of living.

“It cannot be right that so many people in this country are having to choose between heating and eating, struggle to return to work after having a child because of the huge cost of childcare, and see fares for public transport hiked way above inflation.”

Mr Hanley said: “People are worried about job losses in the NHS, the police and the state sector – but overwhelmingly it’s about rising prices.”

Miss Winterton said: “We’re highlighting the cost of Cameron, having discovered that people in Yorkshire and Humberside are some £1,800 a year worse off under his Government.”
