New Addingham headquarters hosts a Scouting festive panto
12:00pm Sunday 12th January 2014 in Local news
Addingham Scouts performed a panto called A Scouting Christmas Carol in the new Scout headquarters in the village.
Tickets went on sale, initially to parents and friends and some invited guests, then to the general public and all 100 seats were sold.
The panto was written by village Scout leader Paul Jennings and performed by the Scouts after only five weeks of rehearsing.
Mr Jennings said with the help of the panto ticket sales the Scouts had managed to raise just under £1,000 for both the Royal British Legion and Shelterbox – the disaster relief charity – in the last couple of months.
He said: “The money for the British legion was raised by going door to door selling poppies for three weeks, therefore giving up on their usual Scout meetings. This is something we have done for the last four years, following a call from the Legion who were struggling to do it.
“The money for Shelterbox was raised through a joint carol service with the Brownies and Guides, at St Peter’s Church, that raised £150 and the ticket sales and refreshments brought in the rest.”
