Appeal for residents to make voices heard over threat to Ilkley's Manor House museum

Friends of the Manor House chairman John Cockshott is again urging Ilkley people to comment on Bradford Council budget proposals which threaten the future of the Ilkley museum.
As reported in the Gazette this week, Mr Cockshott revealed he was concerned that historical artefacts found in Ilkley could be lost to the town if professional staff were taken away from the Manor House Museum.
The historic Ilkley building could lose its museum accreditation if Bradford Council withdraws staff, as part of cost-saving plans to transfer the museum to community management.
He and the Friends are encouraging local people to formally comment on Bradford Council’s budget proposals for 2014 to 2016 - which includes cuts to the Manor House - before the budget is finalised in February.
“There was considerable concern about the potential loss of artefacts from the town into Bradford’s stores, never to be seen again,” said Mr Cockshott.
