Schools across the district have been well and truly getting into the festive spirit and celebrating Christmas on stage.

This week we’re featuring pictures of some of the nativity plays and other Christmas performances.

  • The younger children of Westville House School performed their traditional nativity. Guests were enthralled with their beautiful singing and confident speaking. ”It’s amazing what children so young are capable of achieving” said one of the parents watching in the audience at the school in Carter’s Lane, Ilkley.
  • Christmas went out west at Ilkley’s Moorfield School, as children took part in a cowboy-themed nativity play.

Children at the school presented their play to a delighted audience of family and friends.

The three to six-year-olds put their singing, acting and dancing abilities to good use in a production of Prickly Hay, based on the traditional Christmas story, but with a western cowboy theme.

  • Parents, friends and family of Ghyll Royd School saw a magical start to the festive season last week, with the Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School nativity performances.

Children in Pre-School took part in Jump if you Love Christmas, whilst children from Reception, Form 1 and Form 2 performed Babushka. Both performances at the Burley-in-Wharfedale school were a joy to watch and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, especially the children.

Jo Jenkinson, head teacher at Ghyll Royd School, said: “The creative arts in an important part of life at Ghyll Royd and the Christmas nativity is a long- standing tradition.

“The children excelled themselves with wonderful performances that had the audience spellbound. Everything was magical – the narrators, the acting and the singing were beautiful. The children and staff have worked very hard this term in preparation for the performances, so a big thank you and well done to everyone involved.”
