Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins has backed a change in the law to compel EU jobseekers to wait for three months before they can claim out-of-work benefits in this country.
The measure will come into effect on January 1.
Mr Hopkins said: “Whilst we do want high quality people to come here and contribute to our nation’s economic prosperity, we will not allow ourselves and our communities to be used.
“I support this very sensible legal change which sends a clear message to potential migrants that the UK is not a soft option and will not be a soft option as long as a Conservative-led Government remains in power.”
