Actors are getting into role for a production of Oliver! which they hope will leave audiences asking for more.

Members of Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society are busy in rehearsal for the Lionel Bart musical. They are hoping the show will prove as successful as last year’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Oliver! calls for a large cast of children to play various parts and GAOS have two teams to play alternate nights, as well as two sets of leading child actors – presenting director Jay Cundall Walker with an organisational challenge.

Telling the musical tale of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, the show is littered with well-known numbers – including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, Pick a Pocket or Two and I’d Do Anything.

The second half of the production starts with the bawdy Oom Pah Pah, before moving on to the sinister My Name, and Fagin’s solo Reviewing the Situation.

The musical director for the show is Cathy Sweet, and David Kirk will play Fagin.

A spokesman for the company said: “David has an immense amount of experience and expertise.”

Oliver! runs from Monday, February 24 to Saturday, March 1.
