‘Buy a brick’ to help Ilkley rugby club extension
Rugby fans and supporters are being offered a chance to have a brick dedicated to them to help build an Ilkley club’s latest facilities.
Ilkley RFC recently gained planning permission from Bradford Council for an extension to its clubhouse and grandstand, opened in 2011.
This will house a fitness and rehabilitation suite, giving players full access to indoor training facilities, and a physiotherapy area to help treat them.
The new clubhouse on Stacks Field, Denton Road, was built following a major fundraising push by the club, and funding from Sport England, Bradford Council, Ilkley Parish Council and a loan from the Rugby Football Union.
Now the club is again embarking on a fundraising campaign to generate the money for the latest addition to club facilities.
The extension and new facilities are expected to cost about £130,000 to build.
Club members, current or past players, friends and relatives of players, and other members of the community are being invited to boost funds in a ‘Buy-a-Brick’ scheme. In exchange for £100 sponsorship, a brick will have a name of choice printed on it, as a lasting reminder of the contribution to the club.
Ilkley Rugby Club has set a target of raising £15,000 through the Buy-a-Brick appeal.
Money for the new extension will also be raised through special events organised by senior team players, and the club is to apply for funding from organisations including the Rugby Football Union and Ilkley Parish Council.
It hopes to start the building work in about May, at end of the current season.
The facilities will be used by the club’s players, and by sports clubs using the premises. Players currently use external gym facilities for training.
