A 90-year-old woman bus passenger who died from head injuries after being thrown from her seat after the driver braked, has been named as Muriel Dawson.

Police are appealing for witnesses after what is classed as a fatal road traffic incident on Beverley Rise, Ilkley, although no vehicles were involved in a collision.

The incident happened at 1.25pm on Monday when a small single decker bus was travelling along the road towards Grove Road and Hebers Grove.

At the same time a Renault Laguna was pulling out of the driveway of a residential property.

The bus then braked and Mrs Dawson, of Queen’s Road, Ilkley, was thrown from her seat and collided with the inside front of the bus.

She was left with head injuries and, it is believed, suffered a medical episode.

There was no collision between the bus or the Laguna and police do not believe any crime was committed.

Mrs Dawson was taken to hospital, but died a short time later. She was formally identified by her son and the coroner has been informed of her death.

Police officers are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or who saw either vehicle immediately before it to call the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101.
