Palace visit for Wharfedale Duke of Edinburgh gold award winners
10:00am Monday 28th October 2013 in Local news
Three girls from Wharfedale joined hundreds of young achievers at the prestigious setting of St James’s Palace.
Emma Brown, Bethany Smith and Lucy Spencer attended Burley Ranger Unit where they achieved their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
They travelled to London to meet The Duke of Edinburgh and to receive their certificates from the sports presenter Jim Rosenthal.
The three, from Burley-in-Wharfedale and Ilkley, worked tirelessly through the five sections of the DofE programme over a number of months to achieve their Gold Award.
Their diverse activities included a cookery course in Somerset, a fire and rescue course in Norfolk and an outward bound course. Throughout their DofE, they were able to prove themselves to be great leaders but also great team members.
These experiences show what an impact doing your DofE can have, and can develop the skills needed for life.
Their Gold Awards have helped them to all get on their chosen university courses and or find a job.
