Ilkley Motor Club volunteers raise £900 for charity
8:00am Sunday 13th October 2013 in Local news
Eight Ilkley Motor Club members maintained their car-parking duties at Nidderdale Agricultural Show at Pateley Bridge, where they marshalled the three spectator car parks.
Stan Peel, Guy Wood, Gordon Hewitt and Dave Lambourne, all of Ilkley, with John Busfield and William Barker, of Guiseley, Malcolm Rainforth, of Menston, and Colin Valentine, of Rufforth, operated voluntarily as they have done for several years.
Retired car sales executive Mr Wood made appeal signs for each car park area and collections were by way of buckets.
As in recent years the proceeds, about £900 this year, go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity.
In total the collections have yielded more than £3,000.
All the team are long- standing members of Ilkley Motor Club and all are former, or currently, motor sport organisers and competitors in several top-ranked disciplines.
Mr Peel said: “We support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, especially as some of us are Dalesmen with a farming heritage. The air ambulance is a vital service for remote farms and villages and the day-to-day incidents on the Dale roads and footpaths.”
