Nominations are wanted for your local heroes
11:00am Monday 7th October 2013 in Local news
A call has gone out for people to help celebrate any neighbours who make life in their community a better place.
Social housing group Incommunities has asked for nominations for its Gerry Pickersgill Award, which celebrates local heroes with plenty of community pride.
The award is named after former Keighley area housing manager Mr Pickersgill, who died in 2000. It is open to any housing association tenant or leaseholder, as well as private rented tenant across the district.
Previous winners have been nominated for helping elderly neighbours, setting up community groups and luncheon clubs and organising neighbourhood watch schemes.
Alex Brown, of Bradford District Tenants and Residents Federation, said: “The 2013 award event promises to be bigger than ever as the search for your ‘local hero’ is opened up to social housing and private tenants across the district. If you know someone who you think is extra special then get in touch.”
Geraldine Howley, Incommunities group chief executive, said: “We want to honour the inspiring work that goes on in neighbourhoods from Bradford Moor to Burley-in-Wharfedale and Allerton to the Worth Valley.”
To make a nomination, contact Craig Berry on (01274) 254749 or e-mail craig. email@example.com with details of the nominee by Wednesday, October 23. Nomination forms will shortly be available from Incommunities offices.
