Power firm to start next phase of work on Otley electricity supply
10:00am Saturday 5th October 2013 in Local news
The next phase of a £1.2 million investment in the power supply serving Otley is about to get under way.
The programme, being carried out by electricity distributor Northern Powergrid, is improving the town’s electricity network by replacing old overhead and underground power cables.
Work on the project, which started in March 2012, will now see low voltage cables serving Westgate being renewed, with work being carried out by contractors Morrison Utility Services on Northern Powergrid’s behalf.
Mile Golubovic, project engineer, said: “This investment programme will improve the reliability of the power supply serving Otley and is proceeding well, with this next phase in Westgate about to begin. We do realise that it may have caused some inconvenience, but once completed it will give the town a power supply that’s more reliable and better able to meet future demand for electricity.”
The work will begin on Monday and the majority of it will affect the footpath. It is expected to be completed by November 5.
