Second date for talk by author of humorous Dales book
2:23pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in Local news
Author Neil Hanson’s talk at Bettys Cafe Tearooms, Ilkley, about his new book The Inn at the Top – the humourous story of his time running Britain’s highest inn in the most remote part of the Dales during the 1970s and 1980s – has sold out so quickly that a second date has now been added.
The event including “a delicious Bettys’ two-course supper and tea or coffee” takes place on Wednesday, October 9, but has proved so popular that a second one has now been arranged for the following night at 7.30pm.
The manager at Bettys Ilkley, Robert Wagner, said: “Tickets to hear Neil’s anecdotes sold out so fast that many of our customers were left disappointed. We are delighted to let everyone know we’ve put on a further event to accommodate the great interest that The Inn at the Top has generated.”
More than half the tickets for the new event were also sold straight away, and a second sell-out is expected.
Neil’s book about his time at The Inn at the Top is described by Gervase Phinn as “massively readable, full of rich anecdote, wry and often touching observations, amusing characters and fascinating information.”
Neil said: “It’s an attempt to do for Dales pubs what James Herriot did for vets. So if you like the Dales, its pubs and characters, I hope you’ll find plenty in the book to amuse you.”
The Inn at the Top is published by Michael O’Mara Books at £8.99. Tickets (price £29.95) from Bettys, Ilkley, (01943) 462826.
