Every dog has its day at this year’s Norwood show
The Four Seasons, this year’s theme for Norwood Show, was very apt as the first signs of autumn started to set in.
Parents and grandparents alike enjoyed the late summer sun as the children competed in the races – everything from the obstacle to three legged race. As the sports drew to a close the adults tried their hand at wellie throwing.
The handicraft classes saw near record entry levels with exhibitors ranging from aged two to 82 with the standard of exhibits extremely high.
Vegetables, winter punch, lemon curd and banana cakes were just a few of the classes for the adults, all attracting a record number of entries.
The afternoon started with the annual Pet Show. Lynda Sawyer, representing sponsor Pharmall Supplies, had the task of judging.
The winners of the dog section, were Thomas and Cameron Knox with their rescued dog, Mitsi, second was Emily Fisher with Daymer and third Serena Patrick with Bumble.
The winner of the small animal section was Charlotte Brotherton with Chestnut the guinea pig. Second was Eleanor Ashby with Alexander her kitten and third Samuel Clarke with Franklin the rabbit. The overall winners of the 2013 Pet Show were the Knox brothers with Mitsi.
In the wide array of handicrafts, Sam Barker, was winner of the Best Miniature Garden and won the Fred Hathaway Rosebowl. Imogen Patrick won the Atkinson Family Trophy for the best Vegetable Vehicle, whilst Sarah Hinde won the Shirley Lancaster Trophy for the most points in the children’s baking classes.
Five-year-old Jayne Ellis won the five and under handwriting prize. Emeline Degiulio was the winner of the Francis & Shirley Dawson trophy for the best handwriting age six and seven, whilst Charlotte Henebury won the Alan Stobbs trophy for the best handwriting aged eight years and over.
