Ilkley town groups join forces for Tour de France plan
The team working on Ilkley’s celebrations for the Tour de France in 2014 is to hold a public meeting in November to bring townspeople up to date on its plans.
The Ilkley Tour de France Organisation is actively trying to involve as many local individuals, businesses and other organisations as possible, and has issued an open invitation to anyone wishing to help out or get involved.
With the months now counting down to July 2012, when the prestigious Grand Depart of the Tour de France will race through the streets of Ilkley, a group working to make the most of the event locally is keen to share its ideas.
Another meeting, involving local councillors, sports clubs and representatives of other organisations, took place at Ilkley Town Hall last week.
Now they are planning to hold a public meeting on Wednesday, November 27, at the Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, to share the latest information on their plans with Ilkley residents.
Sarah Brookfield-Brewis, from The Wheatley Arms in Ben Rhydding, said: “There are some extremely capable and enthusiastic people in Ilkley and we would like to engage with them in order to produce a once-in-a-lifetime event.
“Every week the amount of activities and events for Le Tour grows and we need people to help. We are sure that with the people of Ilkley we can organise, produce and deliver high quality events from within.
“We would welcome anyone who is willing to help with taking on some organisational responsibility or if you have a specific skillset for example project/event management or media skills and would be available to share those skills that would be great.”
Ilkley Cycling Club is co-ordinating camping in Ilkley and also have volunteered to become schools liaison. Susanne Muskita, from Footloose Adventure Travel, is co-ordinating translation and interpretation of information.
A new specific Ilkley Tour de France website currently under construction, will be the central information point for all related information.
The public meeting will start at 7pm.
