Ilkley law discussion group returns after break
10:00am Monday 16th September 2013 in Local news
The Ilkley office of Wilsons Solicitors resumes its free discussion groups following a summer break in August.
The next one, which will cover equity release, will be held at the Clarke Foley centre in Ilkley today between 1pm and 2pm.
Since the forums started in April they have become increasingly popular, with July’s attracting around 30 people who learnt more about how to avoid paying taxes when you die.
The monthly topics, which have been specifically chosen to appeal to the over 50s, have included powers of attorney, what can go wrong with wills and reducing inheritance tax.
Speaking about September’s topic, managing director John Wilson, said: “People over 55 are bombarded with material about equity release schemes and how it can give them greater freedom to enjoy their lives by giving them cash in return for equity in their house.
“It all sounds so easy and, while it may suit some people, there are dangers and well-documented problems that can occur.
“In addition to discussing equity release we also encourage people to come along and ask us questions about any legal issues.”
Both the event and advice given on the day are free of charge.
