9:00am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Local news
A church is asking its congregation to bring in produce from their gardens and allotments as it begins its harvest celebrations this week.
Christchurch, The Grove, Ilkley, will be running a harvest stall in its foyer, and donating all proceeds to a local food bank.
During next week the Coffee Centre, open from 10am to 4pm, will have a special harvest menu and there will be a Harvest supper and barn dance on Saturday, September 14.
On Friday, September 13, the shopper’s service at 10.30am will be the first harvest service, followed by harvest celebrations on Sunday at 9am and 10.30am.
Contributions of tinned and dried goods will be received for a local Food Bank.
Finally, on Sunday evening at 6.30pm, there will be a harvest Songs of Praise, and people are invited to suggest their favourite hymns and why by e-mailing email@example.com.
Minister Rob Hilton said: “We are encouraging everyone in Ilkley, who has a harvest of some sort, to reflect on the abundance of nature and their own labour.
“As Christians, we believe God blesses all creation and we want to give thanks to him for that we can nurture food in our own small way. This is a week of celebration for everyone to take part in.”
