Heathcliffe replaces Geoffrey on Ilkley group's board
9:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Local news
The trustees of Ilkley & District Good Neighbours have announced that Councillor Heathcliffe Bowen has accepted their invitation to become their honorary vice-president to fill the vacancy left by the sad death of Geoffrey Vere.
Good Neighbours chairman John Jewitt said: “Councillor Bowen’s association with Good Neighbours goes back many years, and he is uniquely qualified to step into Geoffrey’s shoes in this position. In my early years with the organisation I had the great pleasure of working with Councillor Bowen’s late father Edward, and I’m looking forward to a similar working relationship with Heathcliffe. He will, I am sure, be a great support to Baroness Lockwood, our Honorary President.”
Councillor Bowen’s first formal appearance for the organisation will be at the annual Over-90s’ Party that Good Neighbours are holding on September 28 at the Clarke Foley Centre.
Councillor Bowen said: “I am really looking forward to the party. I have attended a number of times in the past as part of my civic duties, but this is the first time I will be there as Honorary Vice President of the host organisation”.
Ilkley & District Good Neighbours run several projects for the benefit of elderly and vulnerable people in the area. For more information about them, please visit their website goodneighbours.ilkley.org. New volunteers are always very welcome.
