Otley vintage motor show - thousands expected
12:05pm Friday 6th September 2013 in Local news
Nearly 500 classic cars, lorries and buses will be trundling into Otley this weekend.
This year’s Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza, the big annual fundraiser for local charity Hang on to a Dream, takes place at Knotford Nook on Sunday.
Old tractors, military vehicles and steam engines will also feature on the day, while other attractions will include a mountain dogs display, hog roast, car boot sale, Punch and Judy show and children’s amusements.
Live music will come courtesy of the City of Leeds Band, an accordion group and brass bands, and organiser town councillor Nigel Francis – who runs Hang on to a Dream – is hoping for big crowds.
He said: “The number of vehicles is up on last year, with about 500 entered, and we’ve got about 70 different stalls, so it’s all shaping up and looking like it will be really busy.
“We’ve got a few things for the first time this year, including a birds of prey display and a demonstration by the Otley & Yorkshire Dales branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association.
“I’m just hoping the weather holds and people turn out to make it a huge success.
“We’ve put out thousands of flyers to publicise it and we’ve kept the prices the same as they have been for the last few years now, because we really want it to be a community event that people can afford to come to.”
The extravaganza runs from 10am to 4pm and entrance costs £3 for adults, £2.50 concessions, with accompanied children aged under 14 admitted free.
All proceeds will go to the charity, which raises money for seriously ill children.
Free parking is provided at the site, off Pool Road. For more details call Coun Francis on (01943) 463467 or send an e-mail to email@example.com.
