Literature lovers were out early on Tuesday queueing for tickets for this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival.
Almost 4,000 tickets for the festival – which will run from October 4 to 20 – sold in two hours. Tickets for some of the big names appearing have already sold out.
Festival director Rachel Feldberg said: “A handful of the headliners have already sold out and they demonstrate a broad spectrum of interests from our audience – from the Brownlee brothers, who we knew would be popular on the back of their London 2012 success, and former racing cyclist Richard Moore, who will be getting audiences excited ahead of next year’s Tour De France.
“Shirley Williams, Jeremy Paxman, music journalist Paul Morley and historian William Dalrymple have also proved hits.”
Other sell-outs include appearances by geneticist Prof Steve Jones, who will be using science to retell Bible stories, and Matthew D’Ancona, former editor of The Spectator.
