Guides and Brownies from Wharfedale have been enjoying outdoor activities on their annual unit camps.
Girlguiding in Wharfedale provides the girls in the units with all sorts of adventurous opportunities to help them cement friendships and develop self reliance and a sense of team spirit, which all foster an awareness of their place in the community.
The 1st Ilkley Guides went to Swaledale, 2nd Ilkley Guides and some Brownies camped at Whiteley Wood near Sheffield.
The 1st Burley Guides went to Waddecar in the Forest of Bowland, where they took their theme for the week from a favourite camp fire song Crazy Moose.
This involved ‘travelling’ from state to state across Canada and doing an activity that represented something from each state.
Among the activities they tackled were abseiling, climbing, orienteering, pioneering, zip wire and high tree adventures, canoeing and raft building, building go-karts, and night hikes.
This was in addition to the traditional campfire singing and open-fire cooking.
