Youngsters taking part in scheme meet MP
4:51pm Friday 16th August 2013 in Local news
Member of Parliament for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough, Stuart Andrew, was delighted to meet young people from West Yorkshire taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS).
The NCS is an opportunity given to all 16 and 17-years-olds in England to help them build new skills for work and life and to take on new challenges and to meet new friends. During the scheme, which runs annually in the spring, summer and autumn, the young people spend a short time away from home and take part in a project that helps a community.
Meeting at Herd Farm Activity Centre, Mr Andrew was impressed with questions about politics and government policy from the young people and enjoyed the opportunity to listen to their aspirations for the future.
Mr Andrew said: “I was extremely impressed with the National Citizen Service volunteers. The scheme is one designed to help communities as well as to help young people realise some of their potential and give them the chance to work together.
“I was also very impressed at the questions asked of me by the young people, their political knowledge and awareness was spot on and they were very clear in their own vision for the future of our country.
“I have no doubt that many of these people are destined for great things in their lives.”
