A distinguished local violinist will join Otley Chamber Orchestra for their spring concert.

Mark Ostyn will be the orchestra's soloist when it performs Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64, at the Methodist Church's Wesley Hall on Sunday, April 28.

Mr Ostyn has worked with major UK orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphoy, led the orchestra for a hit West End show, and performed with pop stars like Shirley Bassey, the Bee Gees and Tom Jones.

He is the former musical director of the Scarborough Spa Orchestra and was conductor of the Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Choir for nine and a half years.

Otley Chamber Orchestra's conductor, Tricia Restorick, said : "We‘re thrilled to have such an experienced soloist joining us.

“Mark has played all over the world and this is a fantastic opportunity to hear one of the best loved violin concertos."

The 7.30pm concert, a fundraising event in aid of Otley Courthouse, will also feature Schubert’s lyrical Overture Rosamunde and Beethoven’s Symphony No 2 in D.

Otley Chamber Orchestra has nearly 50 players from Otley and the surrounding area, and its line-up for the spring concert includes a full wind and brass section.

Tickets – accompanied under 18s are free – cost £8 or £6 and are available from the Courthouse, otleycourthouse. org.uk, or by calling (01943) 467466, or on the door.
