Wharfedale patrols will be cracking down on messy dogs
8:00pm Saturday 9th March 2013 in Local news
A pilot scheme will see enforcement patrols cracking down on dog fouling and littering in Wharfedale this spring.
Leeds City Council is planning to begin a six-month trial, using a private firm, in several areas from April to catch more offenders and hand them fixed penalty notices.
Adel & Wharfedale, which includes Pool-in-Wharfedale, Bramhope and Arthington, is one of the wards which have been chosen.
The local authority hopes the initiative, which will see patrols carried out at peak times between 7.30am and 7.30pm, seven days a week, will eventually deter people from re-offending – and then be moved to other wards.
It also says the patrols will be ‘cost neutral’, as while the council will be charged each time a fixed penalty notice is issued, it should then recoup most of that expense when the fine is paid.
