Mel on the lookout for Otley daredevils for bungee jump

Daredevils are being sought to take part in a mass fundraising bungee jump in Otley.

Bliss supporter Mel Metcalfe has organised the event, which will use a crane in the grounds of the Yew Tree Inn, on Saturday, April 27.

She is hoping the day, which will also feature stalls and live music, will raise a substantial amount for the premature and sick babies support charity.

But first she needs more volunteers to follow her footsteps and agree to take the plunge. She said: “We’ve got several jumpers already but need to get more, at least 45, all of whom will be collecting sponsorship money.

“It’s a 200ft jump and we’ve got quite a few first-timers and then people like me, who have done it before. I’ve done about six or seven jumps now.

“If anyone wants to do it they need to get in touch as soon as possible and pay a £20 deposit. There will be another £40 on the day but that can be recovered by anyone who raises more than £200 in sponsorship, if they wish.

“We’re also keen to hear from musicians who would like to play on the day and anyone who would like to run a stall or help with the stage.”

The fun will begin at the Newall Carr Road venue at 11am.
