Sheep are focus of new Fewston exhibition

A three-month exhibition focusing on the life of local sheep begins in Fewston this weekend.
A Sheep’s Year in the Washburn Valley opens at the Washburn Heritage Centre on Sunday, March 3, and will be on show until May 27.
The display covers a year in the life of a sheep, month by month, and illustrates the different stages of sheep farming and breeding during the changing seasons and weather conditions.
It features a collection of pictures, old photographs and other memorabilia assembled to tell the story in an interesting and easy to understand way that will appeal to all age groups.
Project co-ordinator Robin Noakes said: “Farming families and other enthusiasts have made this ‘behind the scenes’ story come to life in a way which will help everyone’s understanding of local sheep farming, including of pure breeds, and the role it plays in the community.”
Other events supporting the sheep theme will begin on Saturday, March 9, with a felt-making class by expert Angela Barrow, followed by two ‘Lambing Live’ visits to Scaife Hall Farm on Sunday, March 10 and Sunday, March 24.
A host of other sheep-related activities have also been lined up from the centre in the spring.
