Otley student’s research into prisoner of war camp
8:00am Tuesday 26th February 2013 in Local news
An Otley A-level student is appealing for help to find out more about a prisoner of war camp which was housed in the town at the end of the Second World War.
Alasdair Love is trying to find out more about the camp and whether it has left any lasting legacy on Otley, as part of a history research project.
“Most physical evidence of the camp has long since vanished, but there must have been, to some extent, influence on the Otley community,” said Alasdair. “This might be a physical legacy such as structures built by the PoWs, a business legacy, such as local businesses started by former PoWs, or a community legacy, such as PoWs settling in Otley or keeping in touch with Otley locals.” Alasdair is keen to hear from anyone who remembers the camp or who has any stories or information.
