MP Kris Hopkins has signed a pledge to work with patients and the NHS to ensure high quality and safe care is secured for all bowel cancer patients in his Keighley and Ilkley constituency.
At a Be Loud Be Clear Parliamentary Reception, Mr Hopkins heard from bowel cancer patients and the charity Beating Bowel Cancer about the importance of good experience for all patients.
He said: “I’m happy to sign this pledge and support the principles in any way I can.
“I look forward to working with the local NHS, particularly management and staff at Airedale Hospital who do a magnificent job, to ensure they are able to continue providing the highest possible quality of service for patients with bowel cancer.”
Mark Flannagan, chief executive of Beating Bowel Cancer, said: “We strongly believe that patient experience should be an integral part of the NHS and it is vital that better care is secured for all bowel cancer patients. “We know of many cases where patients simply aren’t getting the level of care they need.
“We are therefore pleased to launch our Service Pledge as a measure of how hospitals should be providing a good experience to the bowel cancer patients they treat.”
