Otley's pub club hopes to attract visitors with new historic ale trail

A new scheme to boost Otley’s pubs will be launched in the centre of town on Valentine’s Day.

Otley Pub Club’s historic ale trail leaflet includes a map showing the locations of each inn, along with a description and some information about the town’s history.

Designed to encourage more visitors, the leaflet also features Otley’s ‘lost’ – closed, converted or demolished – pubs as reference points, and to show just how many there used to be.

It will be unveiled in the market square at 1pm on Friday, February 14.

Pub Club chairman Peter Jackson said: “The Ale Trail is set to be an excellent way of showing the current and historical importance of pubs to Otley.

“In addition, most importantly, it will encourage people to visit Otley and its great pubs, boosting trade. Such ale trails are popular in other areas and in themselves become a reason for people to visit a town. They can be particularly helpful for the ‘outlying pubs’ that do not attract town centre custom, but also for making people realise that the town is a good place to go for a night out.”

The leaflet will be available at Otley Library and Tourist Information Centre and other venues around town.
