Company in link-up with Red Cross
10:00am Saturday 2nd February 2013 in Local news
An electricity supply firm that has been praised by Otley Town Council has teamed up with the British Red Cross.
Northern Powergrid is working with the charity to ensure that its most vulnerable customers are cared for during a power cut, until the supply is re-connected.
Under the arrangement, anyone registered with the company as potentially vulnerable will be contacted by a Red Cross volunteer by telephone if their power is off for more than three hours.
Northern Powergrid, which was publicly thanked by Otley councillors last week for how it has conducted its upgrading work in the town (see story on page 7), says the service is particularly important during periods of snow and extreme weather.
Customer service operations manager, Matt Preston, said: “We have a duty of care to our customers to make sure they’re safe and comfortable should they unfortunately lose power.”
