Electricity firm says ‘sorry’ for Pool power cuts

An electricity distribution firm has apologised for a spate of power cuts that have hit households in Pool-in-Wharfedale.

Councillor Barry Anderson raised the issue with Northern Powergrid after being contacted by residents who suffered five power cuts within two days.

One constituent also said the most recent problems were part of a longer pattern, claiming that, “in the past five years I have endured more power cuts in Pool than for the previous 40 years in London.”

A spokesman for Northern Powergrid, replying to Coun Anderson, said the cause of last weekend’s cuts had now been identified and addressed.

He said: “I would like to pass on my sincere apologies for the inconvenience this situation has caused you.

“I can appreciate why you have raised concerns, as I am aware your area has experienced an unsually high number of short power cuts recently.

“Due to the number of brief interruptions which were occurring, our engineers have being carrying out extensive line patrols over the past few days in the Pool area and located a piece of equipment which had become detached from one of our overhead pole positions, next to the Wharfedale Hotel at Arthington.

“The heavy snow of last weekend sitting on the overhead lines has inevitably caused some problems for us. However, please rest assured that the equipment has now been secured back to its original condition, therefore you should now not experience any further problems with your electricity supply due to this particular incident.”
