The funeral of a 92-year-old lady from Pool-in-Wharfedale who enjoyed her maiden flight at the age of 85 will take place tomorrow.

The service for Eva Dowson, who died at Harrogate Hospital on January 10, will take place at St Wilfrid's Church at 1pm. Flowers, or donations to Harrogate Hospital, will be welcomed.

Mrs Dowson, who lived on Wharfe Crescent with one daughter, Jane, and next door to another, June Rayner, was a great, great grandmother and was featured in this newspaper on several occasions.

In 2005 the Wharfedale & Airedale – as it was then - Observer spoke to her just after she had taken her first trip on an aeroplane despite only living a few miles from Leeds Bradford Airport.

She told the paper: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to try. To save my grand daughter bringing me back by car, I said I would venture it. I had a marvellous journey.”
