Otley pub says cheers to a double real ale celebration
8:00am Friday 11th January 2013 in Local news
Pub manager Chris English celebrates with co-owner Linda Exley, John Rowe, from Leeds CAMRA, Dr Paul Briscoe, from Otley's Briscoe's Brewery, and co-owner Lee Pullan
An award-winning Otley pub has two reasons to raise a glass this month.
The Old Cock, in Crossgate, has already been named Leeds CAMRA Pub of the Year twice in a row since opening in September, 2010.
Now the inn has taken joint third place in the Yorkshire Camra Pub of the Year competition, too.
Owner Lee Pullan and his team will receive the award on Sunday and then the following day will celebrate another achievement – serving more than 1,000 different ales since opening.
Mr Pullan said: “I would like to give credit to our management team of Chris English and Ryan Benson, along with all the staff, for keeping the pub going successfully in the right direction and taking it from strength to strength.
“To come joint third in the whole of Yorkshire is no mean feat and they should all be very proud of what they have achieved.”
The Old Cock’s 1,000th Cask Ale Celebration will take place on Monday, when seven brews from seven local breweries will be served.
A hot supper will also be served, for £1, and a there will be an auction of gifts – provided by the breweries – to raise money for children’s cancer charity Candlelighters.
The pub will also donate 10p from every drink brought on the day to the charity.
Mr Pullan said: “Customers will be able to vote for their favourite beer and we will also have a guess-the-date competition, for when we served our 1,000th cask ale.
“The fun starts at 7pm and we hope people will come and join us as it’s all for a good cause.”
