Bradford crime team will tackle jewellery theft cases

A specialist team has been set up in the district to target criminals who commit burglaries and robberies to steal jewellery.

Called Operation Scaldlock, it will focus on offenders, identifying receivers and highlighting crime prevention measures.

Police are working closely with Bradford Council as part of the work addressing and responding to any community concerns.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thomas is the senior investigating officer in command of the team. He said: “We have experienced a recent trend of offences across the district where jewellery has been targeted.

“Increases in the value of gold is suspected to be behind these crimes and, although overall offending for burglary and robbery has fallen across the Bradford District by 23 per cent in the last two years, this is an area we need to focus our attention.”

Call police on 101 or on 0800 555111 if you can help identify anyone involved in jewellery offences.
