Anyone planning to abseil, walk or build a volcano at this weekend’s Otley Mini Mountain Fest is being reminded to book a place.
The organisers of the inaugural event, which starts with a sold-out lecture by British climbing legend Doug Scott CBE tomorrow, are expecting large crowds.
That means places on some of the many mountain-related activities running from Otley Courthouse on Saturday, have to be booked.
Those include the bouldering and abseiling trips – being provided free by Lost Earth Adventures – to Caley Crags, two guided walks from Otley to Clifton, and volcano-building children’s art workshops.
All of those events, plus times and details of all the festival activities, can be booked by visiting the Courthouse or calling (01943) 467466.
A wealth of other attractions on the Saturday, meanwhile, do not need to be booked. These include a climbing wall that will be set up outside the venue, a mixture of short films and illustrated talks, a children’s treasure hunt, and quizzes.
A variety of stalls, from groups including Community Action Nepal and Walkers Are Welcome Otley, as well as outdoor leisure-related businesses, will also be set up throughout the day.
Leading winter climber Andy Turner will introduce the mini-fest’s concluding event, a screening of the climbing documentary The Long Hope, at 7.30pm, when he will also hold a question-and-answer session.
