Burley-in-Wharfedale will start the countdown to Christmas on Saturday with their light switch-on and festive market.

BBC Look North weather presenter Kay Crewdson will turn on the lights at 4.30pm.

An introduction at 3.30pm by John Grimshaw, chairman of Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust, which funds and organises the Christmas lights with support from the parish council, will be followed by the Salvation Army Choir, with Otley Brass Band. At 4pm there will be an address made by Methodist minister Tim Perkins, followed by performances by St Mary’s singers and School choirs.

The annual Christmas Market will also be running from 2-5.30pm, and Main Street will be closed to through traffic.

There will also be a Christmas Tree Festival in the Methodist Church from noon and a craft fair selling a host of items will be held in the Queens Hall between noon and 4pm.
