An MP shared a drink with nursery children to help mark World School Milk Day.

Stuart Andrew became temporary milk monitor – handing out drinks to youngsters at Dolphins Day Nursery at West End Lane in Horsforth – before joining them in a glass of the good stuff.

The nursery was one of many across the country taking part in the day, which aimed to educate youngsters about the benefits of drinking milk.

Mr Andrew, whose Pudsey constituency includes Horsforth and Aireborough, described the scheme as a great initiative.

He said: “Milk is full of calcium, vitamin D, phosphorous and a balance of other nutrients that have been proven to build your bones and teeth, as well as promote the healthy function of your muscles and blood vessels.

“I therefore feel it is important to encourage children to start drinking milk from a young age. Indeed, drinking milk has a number of benefits for children, from providing energy and key nutrients to allowing for important social time.

“In the midst of the unhealthy fizzy drinks available today, milk is a natural, healthy choice.”
