An amateur film director from Otley has won the comedy category in a Parliamentary competition.
Nick Scurfield’s Early Bird, a humorous short that shows an infant getting up to cook a fry-up for his sleeping dad, took first prize in the Film the House contest.
The award was made during a ceremony on the House of Commons Terrace on Tuesday night.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who nominated Nick’s film as the best submitted in his constituency, said: “I am absolutely delighted my constituent, Nick Scurfield, has won the comedy category of the Film the House 2012 awards.
“It was a fantastic occasion and a fitting tribute to all those who entered this year’s completion. I hope winning this award will spur Nick on to bigger things.”
Open to all amateur film-makers, Film the House was designed to raise political awareness about the importance of copyright and intellectual property, while giving the winning entries national publicity.
A panel of industry experts chose the finalists, and winners had their films shown on the House of Commons terrace.
Other prizes will include studio tours, work experience with movie companies, and private screenings for friends and family.
