An avid reader has taken delivery of a ‘mini library’ of titles penned by some of the biggest names at this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival.
Hannah Powley, 22, of North Leeds, won the collection of books – worth hundreds of pounds in total – in our competition run in conjunction with festival organisers.
Miss Powley, who works in Addingham, correctly told us the title of Richard Ford’s latest book is Canada.
She was delighted with her prize, although she admits her boyfriend recently put a restriction on the number of new books she brings into the house, so great is her turnover of reading material.
“We have a spare room – there should be space in there,” she said.
A dedicated book lover, Miss Powley counts works by Tolkien, Dickens and Angela Carter among her favourite reads. She was at the Wildman Theatre in Ilkley Playhouse on Friday to hear theatre critic Susannah Clapp, a close friend of Carter, talk about the late writer and her work.
Angela Carter was Ilkley Literature Festival’s Writer in Residence in 1977.
