A councillor is calling for a 20mph zone in the area around a Guiseley junior school.

Paul Wadsworth (Con), who represents Guiseley and Rawdon, wants to see the strict speed limit imposed in the area around St Oswald’s School.

Coun Wadsworth welcomed the news that work will begin this autumn to improve pedestrianisation around the A65 and Oxford Road, but he said more needed to be done to improve safety in other areas.

He said: “Ensuring the safety of the people that I represent is a vital part of my role and, with this in mind, I am proposing that a 20mph zone around St Oswald's Junior School, Oxford Road, Tranmere Park and around the Back lane and Cavendish Road area be implemented as soon as possible.

“Along with councillors Pat and Graham Latty I will be delighted when our work for improved safety of the A65 Station Hotel Junction comes about and we were also pressing to receive assurances from the Highways Department that there will be a pedestrian crossing at The Green and that they will look for shared space in the Town Gate area, but more is needed.

“I will continue to urge the council to back me in my proposals to make Guiseley safer and more child-friendly.”
