Ashlands Primary School has taken over running the school kitchens from Bradford Council provider Education Catering Services.

The children have seen a change in menus, which now feature many exciting new choices, all home-made, using fresh local ingredients.

Catering manager Mark Bywater leads a kitchen team of five, managing the new catering operation and has been supported during the changeover by Helen Guy, catering consultant.

Head teacher Andrew Soutar said: “Being able to provide tasty and healthy meals that are enjoyed by all our children is an important part of a school’s work.

“We all know that for anyone to learn to the best of their ability they need to receive all the energy, nutrients and vitamins to be healthy.”

The children have said how much they are enjoying the new school meals. Children have commented they are delicious, with more variety and healthier options. They have even commented on the new staff uniform.

The school is running a competition for the children to create a name and logo for the catering service, which will be unveiled in September.

During the summer, the school is planning a full kitchen refurbishment.
