Wharfedale Hospital's clean bill of health after inspection

Otley’s hospital has been rated ‘best in Leeds’ once again for cleanliness and the quality of its food service.

All of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s sites achieved a ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ rating this year under the annual Patient Environmental Action Team audit.

But Wharfedale Hospital, which has excelled in recent years, was again the top performing site in the area, scoring an ‘excellent’ rating overall and for its food.

Matron, Zoe Kirk, said: “There is a real pride among all the staff who work here and a commitment to providing the highest possible experience for the patients who use our services, from the moment they walk in through the doors.

“I’m therefore delighted that once again this assessment has confirmed the high standards of cleanliness and the safe environment we provide here at Wharfedale Hospital.

“Particular credit is due to those staff who work so hard every day to keep the hospital looking clean and bright.”

The inspection, carried out by patient representatives as well as matrons and infection prevention specialists, meas-ures the cleanliness of patient and public areas against a rigorous set of criteria.

Head of facilities at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Craige Richardson, said: “Achieving and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness is one of the foundations of good patient care, and this assessment shows we are continuing to deliver on this important goal. Cleaning and housekeeping staff at Wharfedale Hospital and our other sites do a fantastic job, and it is great to see their efforts recognised.”
