Police issue warning over internet scam
6:27pm Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in News
Internet users in Bradford have been warned to be vigilant as investigations continue into an online scam.
West Yorkshire Police have advised residents to be wary of the scam in which conmen are using the force logo to try to solicit cash from web users.
Detectives say police would never seek money from residents via a website and urged them to get in touch if the scam message pops up on their computer. The message claims the force has identified them as having illegal activity on the computer and that they must pay a fine by contacting an e-mail address or phone number, quoting a voucher code displayed on the message.
Det Insp Fran Naughton, of the economic crime unit, said: “We are continuing investigations into this scam and want to remind residents to be wary of it and not to pay if they receive this message.”
