Local residents steered clear of cars and opted for a more traditional model of transport to take in finer views of Wharfedale in April 1960.
According to a report of the time, motorists getting away for the Easter holiday were bumper to bumper on the highway, but the people pictured above probably enjoyed their weekend a lot more, getting around the valley with carriages and on horseback.
Pictured are Mr and Mrs A Smith, Miss L Rouse on her pony, as well as M Barraclough and D Pickersgill.
The picture was taken at Menston during the Easter period, showing Menston and the Wharfe Valley in the background, amid bright sunshine, although the warm coats suggest the weather was not as glorious as it appears.
